Greek-owned bulk carrier safely transits Strait of Hormuz

Lloyd’s List, which deals with maritime industry news, reports that a Greek-owned bulk carrier has become the first ship of its kind to transit the Strait of Hormuz since March 2 with its Automatic Identification System (AIS) turned on.

The carrier sailed close to Iran’s Larak Island, a route that is emerging as a “safe corridor” for ships transiting the strait with permission from Iranian authorities, Lloyd’s said.

Before transiting, the carrier changed its destination to display “Cargo food for Iran”.

  1. Tehran is "ready to allow" vessels connected with Japan to pass through the Strait of Hormuz after appropriate consultations with Tokyo, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in an interview with the Kyodo news agency.

"We haven’t closed the strait. It’s open," he said. Araghchi noted that consultations with Tokyo regarding the passage of vessels connected with Japan through the Strait of Hormuz have already begun, the agency said, without citing a quote.
