President Donald Trump says the world will find out "over the next, probably, ten days" whether the US will reach a deal with Iran or take military action.
At the inaugural meeting of his Board of Peace in Washington DC, Trump said "we have some work to do" in coming to an agreement with the Islamic Republic about its nuclear programme, and that "we may have to take it a step further".
The current objective of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is to create conditions for a possible agreement between Iran and the United States in a bid to avoid the use of force, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said on Thursday.
"Of course, the IAEA cannot be part, as an international organization, of any military plans. My job is more related to peace and international security … My effort is to provide for the conditions that would take them where they want to be without the use of force," Grossi told Bloomberg Television.
Grossi expressed readiness to resume inspections at the Iranian nuclear facilities that were previously halted by Iran, saying that "if we had the opportunity, our inspectors are ready." He also expressed hope that the IAEA would soon be permitted to the Iranian nuclear facilities damaged by the US strikes in June.
He said he understood that the issue of nuclear and technological activities was very important for Iran, but at the same time, adding that the US had made its position clear, and US President Donald Trump had set out certain "red lines."

The UK has not agreed on the US using its air force bases for possible military strikes on Iran which in turn prompted President Donald Trump to withdraw his support for the former’s deal to hand over the Chagos Island to Mauritius, British daily The Times reported on Thursday.
ReplyDelete“The White House is drawing up detailed military plans for a strike against Iran involving the use of both Diego Garcia and RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, which is home to America’s fleet of heavy bombers in Europe,” the report said.
It added that under UK-US agreements, said US bases can only be used for military operations that have been agreed on in advance with the UK government.
ReplyDelete“The president spoke to the prime minister on Tuesday night, and the two men discussed Trump’s ultimatum to Iran over its nuclear programme. The following day, Trump made his statement attacking the Chagos deal,” the report said.
