US urges Iran’s IRGC to refrain from ‘escalatory behavior’ at sea

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) urged Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to conduct their announced two-day live-fire naval exercises in the Strait of Hormuz in a safe and professional manner.

While acknowledging that Iran has a right to operate in international airspace and waters, CENTCOM warned against the consequences of unprofessional behavior.

“Any unsafe or unprofessional behavior near US forces, regional partners or commercial vessels increases risks of collision, escalation, and destabilization,” an official statement released on Friday said.

CENTCOM added that it will ensure the safety of US personnel, ships and aircraft operating in the Middle East
