The US conducted exercise simulating a "preemptive nuclear missile strike" on Russia in October - DM

Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov said on Wednesday that he considers it expedient to begin preparations for the resumption of nuclear tests at the Novaya Zemlya test site.

"I consider it advisable to start preparations for full-scale nuclear tests immediately," Andrei Belousov said at a meeting with members of the Russian Security Council.

This Russia's remote Arctic archipelago sits about 3,500 km (2,200 miles) northeast of Alaska and is the closest US point.

Washington is actively building up its strategic offensive weapons, he said.

"We must focus not only on the statements and pronouncements of politicians and American officials but, above all, on the actions of the United States of America. And these actions clearly demonstrate Washington's active increase in strategic offensive weapons," Belousov said at a meeting with members of the Russian Security Council.

A possible US rejection of the moratorium on nuclear tests may be a step towards destroying the system of global strategic stability, Belousov said, adding that the United States is going to deploy missiles in the Asia-Pacific region and Europe, the flight time of which from Germany to central Russia will be 6-7 minutes.

  1. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the situation surrounding US President Donald Trump's announcement of the resumption of nuclear testing a serious issue.
Last week, Trump said that he instructed the Department of War to immediately resume nuclear testing. He then specified that his order was due to "others doing testing" and it was "appropriate" for the US to keep up.

  2. The Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) without a warhead flew about 4,200 miles (6,700 kilometers) during a test launch and splashed down in the Marshall Islands area, the US Air Force Global Strike Command’s Vandenberg Space Force Base reported.

"This test validated the reliability, adaptability, and modularity of the weapon system," the statement said. "The data collected during the test is invaluable in ensuring the continued reliability and accuracy of the ICBM weapon system," the servicemen added.

This launch was the first since US President Donald Trump announced in late October that Washington would resume nuclear testing. However, neither the US leader nor other White House officials explained whether this involved explosive tests.

  3. The United States has conducted a test launch of an unarmed nuclear-capable Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California said.
Late on Monday, the base announced that the US will conduct an overnight test launch of an unarmed nuclear-capable Minuteman III, following President Donald Trump's order to resume military nuclear testing.
"Air Force Global Strike Command conducted a test launch of an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California, on November 5, 2025. This test, designated GT 254, evaluated the ongoing reliability, operational readiness, and accuracy of the ICBM system, a cornerstone of America's national defense," the Vandenberg base said in a statement.

  5. During a meeting with the permanent members of Russia’s Security Council, Defense Minister Andrey Belousov briefed President Vladimir Putin on potential military developments, highlighting that the United States may deploy medium-range missile systems in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region capable of reaching central Russia within six to seven minutes.

Belousov emphasized that the US intends to operationalize the Dark Eagle missile system by the end of this year. This advanced platform is equipped with hypersonic missiles boasting a range of approximately 5,500 kilometers.

He further explained, "The planned deployment of this system in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region means that, from Germany - where the missile system is to be stationed - the time of flight to targets in central Russia will be roughly six to seven minutes."

In a post on his English-language Telegram channel, he wrote that Donald Trump is "the president of the United States, and the consequences of such words are inescapable: Russia will be forced to assess the expediency of conducting full-fledged nuclear tests itself."

Trump said he had instructed the Pentagon to resume nuclear weapons testing immediately, citing the fact that other countries are already doing so. The US leader did not specify what kind of tests he was referring to or whether he meant nuclear warhead detonations.
