Tomahawk supplies to Kiev to cause huge damage to Russia-US relations, cautions Lavrov

The decision to supply Tomahawk missiles to Kiev will cause huge damage to relations between Moscow and Washington, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview.

"Yes, there were statements about Tomahawks but in this series of statements about potential Tomahawk supplies [US] President Donald Trump mentioned among his other comments that he does not want any escalation. He admitted that this would be an escalation, moreover, a very serious escalation. In this case, Ukraine will no longer have anything to do with that. This will simply cause colossal damage to the prospects of normalizing relations between Russia and the United States and the efforts to exit the complete dead-end that these relations were driven into by the Joe Biden administration," Russia’s top diplomat said.

  1. The United States should understand that delivering Tomahawk missiles to Kiev would lead to a "dangerous escalation" in relations with Russia, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

"We assume that intelligent and experienced people, who understand everything perfectly well, are governing the United States, as such a move would take the situation to an entirely new level. No one familiar with the matter denies that only military personnel from the manufacturing country can operate such systems. In addition to turning Joe Biden’s war into Donald Trump’s war, this would also mean a dangerous escalation of tensions between Russia and the United States. I have no doubt they are aware of this," he said.

Meanwhile, Lavrov noted that Russia had not requested a meeting with the US to convince them that such a move would pose an extreme danger.

  2. A Ukrainian government delegation has met with prominent American weapons manufacturers during a US visit, before President Volodymyr Zelensky’s meeting with President Donald Trump. Trump reiterated the possibility of the US supplying Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles on October 14, 2025, as well as his disappointment with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Moscow has warned that sending Tomahawks would trigger an escalation in the war.
