‘Kill them’: Trump says no Congress nod needed to attack ‘narco-terrorists’

President Donald Trump has said United States attacks on alleged ‘narco-terrorists’ do not need a declaration of war, and while Congress will be briefed on operations, the recent spate of bombings of vessels in the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean will be followed by strikes on land.

“Well, I don’t think we’re going to necessarily ask for a declaration of war,” Trump told reporters at the White House on Thursday.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Thursday launched a plea in English as tensions mount between Washington and Caracas: "No crazy war, please!"

Maduro's comment came after US President Donald Trump said he had authorised covert action against the South American nation, and amid an escalating US military campaign against alleged drug traffickers in the Caribbean and Pacific.

"Yes peace, yes peace forever, peace forever. No crazy war, please!" Maduro said in a meeting with unions aligned with the leftist leader, a former bus driver and union leader.

  1. So far, the US military has carried out attacks on at least nine vessels in the Caribbean and Pacific since early September, killing at least 37 people in what Washington has branded a military operation against “narco-terrorists” – without providing any evidence to support its allegations of criminality.

  2. The US may soon launch attacks against drug cartels in Latin America on land, Donald Trump said.

"The land is going to be next. And we may go to the Senate, we may go to Congress, and tell them about it, but I can't imagine they'd have any problem with it," he told reporters at the White House.

"And the land, drugs are much more dangerous for them [drug gangs]. It's going to be much more dangerous. You'll be seeing that soon," Trump added.

"I don't think we're going to necessarily ask [Congress] for a declaration of war. Just going to kill people that are bringing drugs into our country," he pointed out.
