Moldova’s electoral commission has barred two pro-Russian parties from taking part in this weekend’s parliamentary election, a high-stakes vote overshadowed by claims of Russian interference.
On Friday, the commission excluded the Heart of Moldova and Moldova Mare parties, citing allegations of illegal financing, voter bribery and undeclared foreign funds.
Both parties had campaigned on closer ties with Moscow, challenging the pro-Western government ahead of Sunday’s ballot.
Moldova’s Central Election Commission banned the Greater Moldova party led by Victoria Furtuna from running in the upcoming parliamentary election on suspicion of illicit financing.
ReplyDelete"The list of candidates from the Greater Moldova party is to be annulled," according to a resolution read out by the country’s deputy election chief Pavel Postica. The move was approved by the majority of CEC members, a TASS correspondent reported from the scene.
Moldova will hold parliamentary elections on September 28.
