European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called US President Donald Trump and told him about the damage to the EU mission in Kiev following last night's explosions.
"Just spoke with President @ZelenskyyUa, then @POTUS Donald Trump, following the massive strike on Kyiv which also hit our EU offices," she wrote on the X social network.
Von der Leyen reiterated that the EU "must secure a just and lasting peace for Ukraine with firm and credible security guarantees that will turn the country into a steel porcupine," including with the use of Europe’s defense instrument SAFE which "will be important to strengthening the brave Ukrainian armed forces."
Earlier, von der Leyen said that two explosions occurred overnight 50 meters from the EU mission in Kiev. No one was injured. The European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib said that the windows of the mission were broken and the ceiling crumbled.
The EU mission is located in an office building in Kiev next to a large railroad depot to which weapons from EU countries are transported, among other things. Videos shared on Ukrainian social media show explosions at the depot at night. Air defense systems were also operating in the vicinity.

The Bayraktar factory that was to produce Turkish drones for Ukraine was seriously damaged last night, deputy of the Lvov City Council Igor Zinkevich said, according to the Strana newspaper.
ReplyDelete"Last night, the Bayraktar Turkish drone factory in Kiev was hit for the fourth time in the last six months, with two strikes recorded," Strana quoted him as saying.
According to Zinkevich, the plant has not yet gone live, but most of the production facilities had already been prepared.
The European Union and the UK have summoned top Russian diplomats after a massive attack on the Ukrainian capital in which 15 people were killed and the EU's diplomatic mission and British council buildings were damaged.

The drone and missile assault "shows that the Kremlin will stop at nothing to terrorise Ukraine, blindly killing civilians, men, women and children, and even targeting the European Union," the European Commission President told reporters in Brussels.
"The Russian armed forces are fulfilling their tasks," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

Des missiles et des drones russes ont éventré des immeubles d'habitation à Kiev, causant la mort d'au moins 17 personnes, dont quatre enfants, au cours d'une des plus importantes attaques aériennes russes contre l'Ukraine. Les locaux de la délégation de l'UE dans le centre de la capitale ukrainienne ont été endommagés pendant cette attaque nocturne. Situé à proximité, le bureau du British Council a également subi des dégâts.
