Donald Trump has said the Ukrainian president can end Russia's war "if he wants to", but there would be "no going into Nato by Ukraine" as part of a peace deal.
Hours before he was due to host Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, Trump also said there would be "no getting back" of the Crimean peninsula, which Moscow illegally annexed in 2014, eight years before launching its full-scale invasion.
"Remember how it started. No getting back Obama given Crimea (12 years ago, without a shot being fired!), and NO GOING INTO NATO BY UKRAINE. Some things never change!!!" Trump added.
Trump later added: "Big day at the White House tomorrow. Never had so many European Leaders at one time. My great honor to host them!!!"
ReplyDeleteThe United States expects Ukraine to become a large supplier of military equipment to European countries as they increase their defense spending, US Ambassador to NATO Matt Whitaker said in an interview with Fox News.
ReplyDelete"They [Ukraine] are certainly going to be large provider of military equipment to Europe, as they [European countries] spend the 5% they all agreed to," Whitaker said.
According to him, it is already necessary to think about what Ukraine's economy will look like. He noted that, in addition to the defense sector, Ukraine will have to restore its agricultural economy, ports and infrastructure, which will require "a lot of money pouring into Ukraine primarily from Europe."
