At least 118 people killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza over past day

As many as 118 people have been killed in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours, Gaza’s Health Ministry reported on Thursday.

"Over the past 24 hours, 118 bodies and 581 injured people were taken to hospitals," the ministry wrote on its Telegram channel. The death toll in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on October 7, 2023 has approached 57,130, with 135,173 people injured, the ministry added.

  1. The United Nations (UN) special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, said that nations around the world should suspend trade with aggressor Israel amid the tragedy occurring in Gaza, calling it "one of the cruelest genocides in modern history."

    "States must impose a full arms embargo on Israel, suspend all trade agreements and investment relations and enforce accountability," she said, speaking at the UN Human Rights Council. "Corporate entities must urgently cease all business activities and terminate relationship directly linked, contributing to, and causing human rights violations and international crimes against the Palestinian people."

    "At this existential moment for the Palestinian people, trade unions, lawyers, civil society groups and ordinary citizens should encourage such behavioral change from the side of corporate entities and governments by pursuing boycotts, divestments, sanctions, and accountability," the UN expert said in her latest report.

    Earlier, Albanese noted that top EU officials should face legal consequences for their involvement in Israel's war crimes against Palestine.

  2. The director of Gaza's Indonesian Hospital has been killed in an Israeli air strike on his home in Gaza City along with several family members, a relative has confirmed.

    Dr Marwan Sultan and his loved ones died on Wednesday in their apartment in the southwestern Tal al-Hawa area, according to the Hamas-run civil defence agency.

    The Israeli military said it had struck a "key terrorist" from Hamas in the Gaza City area and that claims "uninvolved civilians" were harmed as a result of the strike were being reviewed.
