None of the residents of the village of Russkoye Porechnoye in the border area of the Kursk Region survived the Ukrainian occupation, district head Yelena Zhadanova reported.
"Not a single resident of the village of Russkoye Porechnoye survived [the occupation]," she said during the "Liberation of the Kursk Region" international online conference.
Zhadanova added that the Ukrainian armed forces occupied the settlements in her district from the very first days of the invasion. Initially, 92 people remained in the district, and ten residents managed to evacuate in the first months. Currently, 24 people are still listed as missing.
Many men in the Sudzha district of the Kursk Region sacrificed their lives trying to protect their loved ones during the occupation by Ukrainian forces. According to Yelena Zhadanova, head of the Porechnoye village council, some men bravely shielded civilians by covering grenades with their bodies when Ukrainian soldiers threw them into basements where families sought refuge.
ReplyDelete"They [the Ukrainian soldiers] often threw grenades into the basements. Men tried to save their loved ones by covering the grenades with their bodies. But even after that, the soldiers would continue to throw more grenades," Zhadanova recounted during the international online teleconference, Liberation of the Kursk Region.
Zhadanova further described the brutal treatment of civilians: Ukrainian soldiers then entered the basements and shot wounded individuals. "They [Ukrainian soldiers - TASS] didn’t give anyone even the slightest chance to survive. They committed violence against women remaining in the occupied villages," she added.
The majority of the residents from Russia’s Kursk Region that are being held by Ukraine remain in temporary accommodation centers in the city of Sumy, Sergey Futo, the Russian human rights commissioner’s chief of staff, said.
ReplyDelete"A total of 34 people are still being forcibly held [by Ukraine] - it’s the people that we are aware of. Twenty-seven of them are staying in temporary accommodation centers in Sumy, and seven people are staying with their relatives," Futo specified during a video conference dedicated to the liberation of the Kursk Region.
According to him, hard work continues to bring each and every one of them back to Russia. "We strongly hope that we will be able to complete this mission in the near future, bringing back all those that we are aware of," the official added.
According to Futo, 132 Kursk civilians, who were taken to Ukraine after the Ukrainian armed forces’ incursion into the region, have returned home through the efforts of Russian Human Rights Commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova. He also said that the returnees provided information about the crimes that the Ukrainian Nazi regime had committed against them. "We are carefully working to document all the regime’s crimes," he added.
In the first months of the occupation of the village of Plekhovo in the Sudzha district, Kursk region, the Armed Forces of Ukraine began to set fire to the houses of civilians, forcing the locals hide from the fires in the bushes for three days, an eyewitness, Nikolai Kozlov, said during an international virtual conference titled "Liberation of the Kursk Region."

ReplyDeleteDuring the occupation of Novoivanovka, a village in the Sudzha district of the Kursk Region, Ukrainian soldiers committed acts of violence against local residents, including arson and the use of chemical agents. Yelena Drugova, a resident who sought refuge in a basement during the incursion, provided testimony at an international online teleconference titled Liberation of the Kursk Region.
ReplyDeleteShe recounted, "Around 1 a.m. on October 21, 2024, a tank arrived, accompanied by a heavy drone overhead. They began to gas us and opened fire on the nearby houses. They were aware of our presence - seven civilians hiding there. Fires erupted, and explosions shook the area. Those who managed to escape grabbed their crutches and bags and fled."
Drugova explained that these events unfolded after the Russian army entered the settlement. She was unable to evacuate earlier due to injuries sustained in Ukrainian attacks - specifically, bullet wounds. "Our soldiers pulled me out amid mortar and tank fire. They destroyed the tank and led me to a nearby basement. Sadly, my father was caught in the fire and burned alive in the house," she said.
