Pakistan carries out retaliatory strikes on militant targets in Iran

Pakistan said Thursday it had carried out strikes against militant targets in Iran, a day after Tehran launched attacks on Pakistan territory earlier this week. 

Iranian state media reported three women and four children were killed in explosions in the country's southeast.

"This morning Pakistan undertook a series of highly coordinated and specifically targeted precision military strikes against terrorist hideouts in Siestan-o-Baluchistan province of Iran," a foreign ministry statement said, adding that a "number of terrorists were killed".

"A number of terrorists were killed during the Intelligence-based operation codenamed ‘Marg Bar Sarmachar,’" the statement pointed out.

  1. The ministry also said Islamabad "fully respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran," adding that "the sole objective of today’s act was in pursuit of Pakistan’s own security and national interest which is paramount and cannot be compromised."
    Pakistani aircraft have entered the airspace of Iran and successfully returned after delivering strikes on hideouts on its territory, Reuters reported on Thursday, citing a source.

  2. The Iranian Foreign Ministry has summoned Pakistan's charge d'affaires in Tehran, the Iranian agency Young Journalists Club reports.

    The diplomat was summoned to provide explanations about the recent strike of the Pakistan Armed Forces on targets in the Iranian province of Sistan and Baluchestan. Iran's foreign ministry has not offered an official comment.

    An Iranian security official told Press TV that Tehran had demanded clarifications from Islamabad over the Pakistani Air Force's missile strikes on targets in Iran.
