This is the latest of several delays this week on the draft resolution, which aims to get more humanitarian aid access to Gaza.
Three of [the changes to the resolution] are quite significant and that’s, perhaps, why they were not able to come up with an agreement.
Russian and Palestinian ambassadors are not happy with these changes at all, and now we are back to the drawing board, essentially.
Linda Thomas-Greenfield says the new draft resolution on Gaza at the UN Security Council “will bring humanitarian assistance to those in need”.
“It will support the priority that Egypt has in ensuring that we put a mechanism on the ground that will support humanitarian assistance, and we’re ready to move forward,” the US ambassador to the UN told reporters.
The US is continuing to oppose a UNSC resolution on Gaza because it would give legal sanction to action nations may take against Israel, such as that threatened by Ansarallah, the de facto government in Yemen.
