Serbia's President Aleksandar Vucic said his party had won a commanding victory in parliamentary elections Sunday, extending the populist outfit's rule in the Balkan country amid accusations of foul play by the opposition.
Official results were set to be announced late Monday but the president appeared certain of his Serbian Progressive Party (SNS)'s performance, just hours after the polls closed, AFP reported.
"We will have an absolute majority in parliament with 127 seats," Vucic told reporters during a press conference, saying around 76 percent of ballots had been counted.
Vucic's SNS party won some 47% of the ballots in the parliamentary vote, followed by Serbia Against Violence with 23%, according to a near-complete preliminary tally by the state election commission.
Several other smaller parties also competed in the election, which was held only 18 months after the previous presidential and parliamentary vote.
