Intensity of Ukrainian shelling falls amid ammo shortage, says Russian commander

The intensity of Ukrainian shelling along the line of engagement has reduced of late as Ukraine has been running out of munitions, Apty Alaudinov, commander of the Akhmat special forces unit, told Rossiya-1 television.
"Certainly, we have been registering that they [Ukrainian troops] are having increasingly fewer shells. While previously,  they pounded us with uninterrupted fire, there is a perception now that they are running out of munitions," he said.

Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that the European Union will not be able to supply 1 mln artillery shells to Kiev by March 2024, as planned, due to the flagging defense industry and bureaucratic hurdles.

  1. German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has warned that an EU pledge to provide Ukraine with a million artillery shells by March 2024 will not be met.

"It is safe to assume the one million rounds will not be reached," he told reporters ahead of an EU defence ministers' meeting in Brussels.

In March, the EU made a "historic decision" to provide Kyiv with a million 155-mm shells within a year.

Ukrainian forces have often complained of shortages in their war with Russia.
