Fico explained that his decision was caused by the high level of corruption in Ukraine. Orban proposed developing a new strategy for Ukraine. In his opinion, it should be based on a ceasefire and negotiations. Orban also proposed to find out what kind of financial assistance Ukraine will need.
The decision to allocate 50 billion euros to the Kyiv authorities requires consensus - uniform approval by all 27 EU members.
Financial assistance to Ukraine, as previously reported, is designed for the period from 2024 to 2027. Prior to this, the European Union, during a summit in Brussels, was unable to agree on changes to the multi-year budget, which included multi-billion dollar aid to Kyiv.
