Rheinmetall buys 30 Leopard tanks from Belgium for Ukraine

The German defense concern Rheinmetall bought 50 old Leopard tanks from Belgium, 30 of which will later be transferred to Ukraine. This was reported by Handelsblatt, citing sources in the German military-industrial complex.

“The Rheinmetall concern is preparing another export of battle tanks to Ukraine. To this end, the company purchased 50 Leopard 1 tanks from the Belgian company OIP Land Systems,” Handelsblatt said.

The publication adds that initially the concern planned to purchase tanks from Switzerland, but the country refused to sell due to its neutral status.

Previously, the Belgian media have already talked about a similar deal, but without indicating a buyer.
