Iran Dismisses New EU Sanctions over Alleged Drone Delivery to Russia

The Foreign Ministry of Iran refuted the allegation of supplying drones to Russia for the use in the Ukraine war, saying Tehran reserves the right to take retaliatory action against the fresh sanctions the European Union has imposed on the basis of such baseless claims.
In a statement released on Friday, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani rejected the accusation of Iran’s military support for Russia against Ukraine according to which the Council of the European Union has established a new framework for restrictive measures against Tehran.

“As announced formally several times, the claim on the export of Iranian drones to Russia for the use against Ukraine is a baseless allegation,” he stressed.

Kanaani noted that any attempt to link the war in Ukraine with the cooperation between Iran and Russia is a move with only political purposes.

Reiterating Iran’s explicit opposition to the war in Ukraine, the spokesman stressed the need for a rapid end to the war through diplomatic courses.

“Unfortunately, the West tries to keep adopting the ineffective and failed policy of imposition of sanctions against the Iranian nation with political motives and by resorting to bogus and unproven claims,” he deplored.

Kanaani finally made it clear that the Islamic Republic of Iran reserves the right to take proportional retaliatory measures against the EU’s sanctions and its members.
