Turkey detains over 1,400 people on Syrian border

Turkish authorities detained 1,410 people trying to enter Turkey from Syria on July 7, the Turkish military said July 8.   

In a statement posted on its official website, the Turkish General Staff said six other people, who were trying to cross to Syria from Turkey, were also detained.       

A vehicle, 11 mobile phones, two battery chargers, 10 identity cards, 3,050 dollars and 95,500 Syrian liras were seized, the statement also said.


  • Meanwhile, three people trying to illegally enter Turkey from Greece were also detained, according to the army.

Also on July 7, Turkey began legal proceedings against 164 people who did not fulfill legal requirements to enter the country, the statement added.
