China opposes US annual report on Chinese military

The Defense Ministry on Saturday expressed firm opposition to a Pentagon report on China's military development and security.

The report played up "China's military threat" in disregard of facts and make groundless accusations of China's defense and military building, said Defense Ministry spokesperson Geng Yansheng in a statement.

He said China was firmly opposed to the U.S. accusations on issues such as the direction of China's defense policies and the so-called lack of transparency.

The spokesperson said the report, released on Saturday by U.S. Department of Defense, disregarded China's efforts to maintain global and regional peace and stability and promote China-U.S. military relations, and distorted China's peaceful development strategies and its justified moves to uphold sovereignty in the East China Sea and South China Sea.

China has always adhered to the path of peaceful development, pursuing a peaceful foreign policy and defensive military strategy, Geng said.

The military buildup aims to maintain sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, and guarantee China's peaceful development, he said.

Stressing that the Chinese military is a strong force upholding world peace, Geng said China's moves to safeguard territorial sovereignty and maritime rights are justified, reasonable and legitimate, and are beyond reproach.

The United States annual report on China's military development has severely damaged trust and runs counter to the important consensus reached between both state leaders on building a new type of major-country relationship and new model of military-to-military relations, Geng said.

He urged the U.S. side to stop comments and actions that harm relations between the two countries and the trust between both militaries, and promote the healthy and stable growth of ties.

China will make further response accordingly, the spokesperson added.

  1. China fast builds ‘counter-space’ capabilities to counter US satellites, Pentagon warns...

Part of China’s rapidly developing space program consists of testing new anti-space technologies, even though the country publicly pledges not to militarize space, the Pentagon said in a report to Congress.

“By the end of October 2014, China had launched 16 spacecraft, either domestically or via a commercial space launch provider. These spacecraft mostly expanded China’s SATCOM and ISR capabilities, while a few others tested new space technologies,” said the report detailing potential threats from China, which the US DoD released Friday.

Among the latest achievements by China the report mentions the first-ever launch of a satellite capable of sub-meter resolution imaging, the Chang’e-5 lunar mission and the completion of a new space launch facility on Hainan Island.

While acquiring new space assets of its own, China is developing “a variety of capabilities designed to limit or prevent the use of space-based assets by adversaries during a crisis or conflict, including the development of directed-energy weapons and satellite jammers,” the report said.

Of particular interest for the US military was the July 23, 2014 launch, which the Pentagon says was a follow-up of the 2007 destruction of an in-orbit defunct weather satellite.....http://rt.com/news/257197-china-space-military-report/
