Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko spoke on Thursday against the deployment of peacekeepers in his country’s embattled south-eastern regions, saying that representatives from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) were already monitoring the recently reinforced ceasefire agreements.
“The idea of peacekeeping contingents, similar to those in (Moldova’s self-proclaimed) Transdniestria, is bad,” Poroshenko said, addressing a news conference. “There are 500 OSCE observers today in Ukraine. Tomorrow we expect first drones. OSCE will be controlling the ceasefire.”
Poroshenko also said that the next two weeks “will be determining for the implementation of the peace process”, adding that his country would “do everything to implement Minsk agreements.”

Moldova demands Russian peacekeepers in Transdniestria be replaced by int’l civil mission...
ReplyDeleteChisinau insists on the soonest withdrawal of Russian peacekeepers from Transdniestria and deployment of an international civil mission, Moldova’s Foreign Minister Natalia Gherman said on Thursday at a meeting of the United Nations General Assembly.
She said that withdrawal of Russian troops would have a positive impact on the talks between Chisinau and Tiraspol.
She also spoke in favor of the soonest resumption of Transdniestrian settlement talks in the 5+2 format, involving Russia, Ukraine, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the European Union, the United States, and Moldova and Transdniestria. In her words, the presence of Russian forces “creates additional obstacles” for the peace process.
Chisinau’s ultimate goal, she stressed, was the same - to find a political solution based on Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and granting Transdniestria a special status.

Peacekeepers may ensure truce in east Ukraine — DPR first vice-premier...
ReplyDeletePeacekeeping forces must be brought to the conflict zone to ensure the truce between Kiev and the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), the republic’s First Deputy Prime Minister Andrey Purgin told TASS.
Somebody must control the 15km security zone, at least monitor it so that Ukraine does not use heavy weaponry, Purgin said, adding that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko had offered his country’s armed forces for such a mission.
Observers from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) are on a monitoring, but not controlling, mission, he said.
The OSCE mission consists of monitors from 57 countries. But nobody can even ensure safety for the mission members on the territory controlled by the Ukrainian side, Purgin said.............http://en.itar-tass.com/world/752984
