New Poll Shows Supporters of Scottish Independence Take Lead for First Time

MOSCOW, September 7 (RIA Novosti) – The most recent poll to be published Sunday shows for the first time that the majority of Scots favor independence, according to Agence France-Presse.

The YouGov poll commissioned by the Sunday Times found 51 percent of voters in Scotland would back independence, compared with 49 percent opposed.


The anti-independence campaign has been ahead in opinion polls across the board for a long time with a 22-point lead in YouGov polling just one month ago but its lead has narrowed in recent days.

A referendum on whether Scotland should be an independent country will take place on September 18. Scots be asked one question, “Should Scotland be an independent country?” If voters back leaving the UK, Scotland could be independent on March 24, 2016.
