Ukrainian troops and pro-Russia separatists have continued their fighting in the eastern city of Donetsk, where on Monday government forces used airstrikes to retake control of the city's airport.
Witnesses heard gunfire early Tuesday near the airport. The clashes come a day after separatists stormed the site and set off fighting that continued into the night.
One rebel said Tuesday that 30 of their fighters had been killed. The death toll could not be independently confirmed.
Petro Poroshenko, the billionaire and former prime minister who won overwhelming support in Sunday's presidential election, said Monday that peace can be reached through dialogue, but that arms should be used against those the separatists he called "terrorists."
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has expressed support for negotiations to defuse the crisis, saying the chance for dialogue with Ukraine cannot be wasted.

Ukraine's election commission reported Poroshenko had earned about 54 percent of the vote in Sunday's election with ballots counted from more than half of the country's precincts.

Chairman of the Supreme Council presidium of the Donetsk People’s Republic Denis Pushilin reported this to ITAR-TASS on Tuesday.
Denis Pushilin added that there were up to 50 civilians among the victims.
“At present, it is known that more than 50 militiamen have been killed. In addition, according to preliminary reports, from 20 up to 50 civilians died,” he said. Pushilin has noted that until now “it is impossible to take away the bodies of all the victims, because snipers are shooting at everyone who attempts to approach them”.
